helped to alter the course of musical theatre
under the management of producer
George Edwardes.

From
Gertie Millar and the Gaiety Girls to
Lehar and his Merry Widow:
Lily Elsie. These
theatres, and Edwardes vision, helped to
create "musical comedy" which established
the genre and inspired the likes of  
Novello,
Rodgers & Hammerstein and all the great
composers, writers and producers of the
musical theatre genre.
